BLESSED BY THE SAINTS
In an effort to become more involved in the Carrollton and surrounding communities. CCA will take on six projects for the 2007-2008 school year. These projects will not be mandatory for students, but the CCA goal is 100% participation. The following information is an overview of this year's projects, and more detailed information will become available oas each event date nears. Please keep checking the CCA website and Edline for more details.
Food Pantry Drive (September/October)
This fall CCA will be gathering non-perishable items to take to the Metrocrest Food Pantry in Carrollton. All of the items brought in by the secondary will be taken to their sponsor's classroom and then later downstairs to their elementary "buddy" class. While the foot items are downstairs, the elementary students will use the items as math manipulatives for graphing, sorting, counting, and weighing. A contest will be held to determine which group gathers the most items, and that group will be rewarded with a pizza party. Items will be collected through the first of November and will make the dropoff to Metrocrest in time for the Thanksgiving holiday time.
Channel 8 Toy Drive (November/December)
Immediately after the Thanksgiving break, the Pre-K through 12th grades will be asked to bring in toys that will be collected for the Channel 8 Toy Drive. Toys will be collected until the Wednesday night of the dropoff when we take the buses and caravan downtown to drop off the toys. It has been suggested that we decorate the buses and all of the cars participating in the caravan. We may even try to organize dinner before the caravan makes its way downtown. This project is another way to bring our CCA families together.
A "Chilly" Day at CCA (January)
This will be a project directed by the PTF to combine our Chili Cookoff with the gathering of cold weather clothing -- coats, hats, gloves, and socks. We would like this to be held on the night of a secondary basketball game to bring elementary and seconddary students together. The elementary students may participate in contests during halftime of the basketball game. This project will be coordinated by Peggy Kincade for the Austin Street Shelter to receive the items collected.
A Military Project (March)
Some of our CCA families who have family members in the military will be contacted to determine what type of items can be collected to send overseas to them. We will have these items ready to send around the Easter holidays.
Pajama Program (April)
The CCA Student Council created this project. We will collect pajamas and books for needy children waiting to be adopted. The collected pajamas and books will be delivered to a key institution in the Dallas area where children are awaiting adoption.
End-of-the-Year School Supply Surplus (May)
All teachers and students will be asked to donate or purchase school supplies to be given to a school or a mission where there is a need. FUMC will be consulted first to see if there is a need for these donated supplies on any of the summer mission trips.
Knowing the kind and generous hearts of our CCA families, we look forward to the blessings that will be bestowed on others in need. If anyone has a special place in his or her heart for the work, please contact Renate Jeffcoat at 214-608-4798 or by e-mail (rjeffcoat@ccasaints.org).
